February Christmas item and crochet

Polar Bear, Snow Day designed by Alicia Paulson
Polar Bear, I think I saw him watching me ... That's what it says on the pattern, isn't that cute?  Polar Bear is my ornament made for February's Christmas item hosted by Narelle.  He comes complete with his own hand knitted neckwarmer and the instructions were to wrap it snuggly around Polar Bear's neck and give him a little kiss on the nose.  So I did.
Last week I saw that Lisa from Cubby House Crafts was offering a crochet-a-long here.  I had bought wool over two years ago to make a crochet cushion so I decided to make the most of this opportunity and crochet-a-long.  Thanks Lisa for the encouragement!
And look at that for size difference in eggs.  I found them in the nesting box on the same day. The middle egg is about the normal size we get, about a size 7, the largest egg was like a goose egg!  Well, I actually don't know that because I don't know how big a goose egg is, but it was big.  It was a double yolker, and we are starting to wonder if some hens are more prone to laying these as we have had a few double-yolkers this year?  Josh enjoyed his extra special boiled egg, Wendy xx

  6. Very cute polar bear with his scarf and very pretty little peggy squares. Scrumptious egg; you learn to pick who is laying by the egg size, shape and colour - lucky Josh if you have a habitual double yolk layer!!

  8. Oh I am loving your colour choice...so pretty! I hope to get my act together and do another progress post. I can't wait to see your cushion come together with your colour selection!
I am sure I have read in my Contented Chook book that some breeds are more likely to lay double yolkers, will have to look back through to check!
    Very cute polar bear too!!

Do you think we can make things that aren't 'Christmas' but are intended for Christmas presents?
I had a chook once that laid double yolkers too.

  15. Your polar bear is gorgeous and I love the the knitted scarf around his neck. Enjoy hooking your cushion too. Do you have some young chooks. We get double yolkers from the young ones for a while after they just start laying. Nothing better than fresh eggs.

  28. Alicia makes the most gorgeous patterns I almost bought the bunny but didn't really have an excuse to make one. Your polar bear is lovely and your stitching always so neat. That egg is huge it's nice to get a double yolker although we don't get them often with our hens. Wishing you a lovely Wednesday. xx
