Vintage love

As I age (now I'm in my mid-40's!) I am loving vintage things more and more.  I get such pleasure seeing the little finds throughout our home and I love the sense of solidity and cosiness they bring.  When we tidied up Mum's things recently I would have loved her buttons but we couldn't find them.  On Sunday my sister came across them and I was so pleased to bring the tin of buttons home.  Paul found the vintage mirror last year, I love the look it has added to the hall.  I have two vintage plates opposite that you can see in the reflection.  The chicken hook was a gift from a dear friend so I enjoy that it hangs in this group.  I am linking with Melody at The House on the Side of the Hill for Tuesday's Treasures, she has a lovely give away today.  Wendy xx

  1. One of my big regrets is throwing out my grans buttons... it was before I was crafty and I was ruthless about keeping things!!! great treasures you shared today and fun to see you peeking in the mirror! Am I mistaken... doesn't look like a mid 40year old????

  2. I have my Mum's buttons too. You know as a child I would play with those buttons, then all of my four children would play with them too, counting, sorting into colour groups!
I know a women who carries one of her Grandmothers buttons with her everywhere, it has been to many places in the world. She keeps it in her handbag, some might think she is crazy, but what is crazy about getting comfort & pleasure from something?
    Enjoy!

The mirror is a beauty, and it's a funny thing how we start to like older things the older we get.As. Youngster,I wouldn't have given you a thank you for (all that old rubbish)I was a teenager through the 60s ,and very Mod...now I love old,and really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it.

  9. How wonderful finding the buttons & the tins they are in are a treasure too. I love those mirrors & can remember having one in our home in Nelson when I was just a little person. I agree with the appreciation you get for such things once we enter our prime! Tracee xx

  10. Hi Wendy and Charlie,

I'm glad that you found your mum's buttons. What a great Tuesday Treasure story.

One of my fondest memories is going to the fabric shop with my mum when I was little. The lady had a basket of loose buttons sitting on the counter and my sister and I would pick up a handful and let it run through our fingers. I loved it.

    Have a great week,
    Tracy

  11. Must say I am in that age bracket too and love vintage. Maybe because it is things we remember from grandparents and parents. Once they are gone you treasure things from their past.

  16. I like the feeling too that old things bring with them, a warm and a life unlike with new things. The hall mirror is a lovely shape, what a great find and those buttons are such a nice thing to have from your Mum. x

  17. Your vintage collection of things look really lovely Wendy, but I do think we need to recognise, that some things from the past should stay in the past... if someone decides to bring back perms... I might become a hermit!

totally agree that the sneak peek we got in the mirror looks quite a bit younger than advertised.

    Thanks for sharing!

  21. Hello Wendy,
I also love vintage things and antique stores, garage sales and thrift stores. But it gets even better if is something that belonged to your mother, that kind of treasure has no price.
    The mirror is just fantastic.
